Team Singapore All Set for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games

Singapore, 6 July 2024 – The Team Singapore contingents for the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games respectively gathered at the official Flag Presentation Ceremony this morning to mark the final lap of their journey towards the pinnacle of sport.
During the ceremony held at the National Youth Sports Institute, Team Singapore sailor Ryan Lo and sprinter Shanti Pereira were unveiled as the flag bearers for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, while para swimmer Toh Wei Soong was revealed as the flag bearer for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Guests-of-honour Ms Grace Fu, Minister for Sustainability and the Environment and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, and President of the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC), and Mr Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community and Youth and Second Minister for Law, presented the Singapore flags to the Chefs de Mission for the respective Games. Para shooter Chan Han Siong was the pledge taker at the official Flag Presentation Ceremony today.
Paris 2024 Olympic Games
The Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which features a total of 45 sports, will take place from 26 July to 11 August 2024. As at 6 July 2024, 22 athletes across 11 sports will represent Singapore. Golfer Shannon Tan most recently made history by being the first Singaporean in her sport to compete at the quadrennial event.
Mr Tan Wearn Haw, Chef de Mission for Team Singapore at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games said, "Our Paris bound athletes have worked hard, and earned their place amongst the world's best. They represent the best of Singapore, and I am sure they will represent us well. They continue a strong legacy of Singapore Olympians and I am sure they will bring us to greater heights."
Team Singapore sailor and flag bearer for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Ryan Lo, who is going for his second Olympic Games campaign, said, “It is a great honour to be given this opportunity to be a flag bearer together with Shanti for Singapore. It gives me an immense feeling of pride and also gratitude to be able to represent Singapore on one of sporting biggest stages. I am looking forward to embracing the challenge of the Paris Olympics while soaking in the experience of this unique event.”
Team Singapore sprinter and flag bearer or the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, Shanti Pereira, who is also going for her second Olympic Games, said, “I am extremely honoured to be carrying the Singapore flag at the opening ceremony in Paris. The Olympics is the biggest stage for us and I’m proud to be leading my fellow team Singapore athletes at the opening ceremony, signifying the start of what will be a very special time for all of us.”
Paris 2024 Paralympic Games
Hot on the heels of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will feature 22 sports from 28 August to 8 September 2024. As at 6 July 2024, nine Team Singapore athletes will compete in five sports, namely boccia, para archery, para equestrian, para swimming, and shooting para sport.
Ms Ng Wee Chew, Chef de Mission for Team Singapore at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games said, “We are immensely proud of our athletes who have qualified for the games, and hopefully a few more are able to make the cut. To compete at the Games is the ultimate goal for many athletes. Their efforts, dedication and perseverance have made this a reality and is an example for all that big dreams can be realised. I am honoured to be given this opportunity to lead our contingent in the Paris games. Let's rally behind our athletes and cheer them on!"
Team Singapore para swimmer and flag bearer for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Toh Wei Soong, who will be making his second appearance at the Games, said, “I am honoured to be the flag bearer for the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. It will be the first time in my 11-year career as a national athlete to do so at a Paralympic Games and I consider it an outstanding moment in my life. We (myself and other athletes) hope to do Singapore proud and to raise this nation’s flag at the Games in August. I want to thank the team behind the team and the effort behind the effort, including the officials, the coaches, the families and the friends, for being part of our lives and supporting us to make this journey happen.”
